Overnight Parking Request
Overnight (2:00am-6:00am) Parking Permission Request
No vehicle shall be parked on any public street within the Township of Springfield between the hours of 2:00am and 6:00am, except for the westerly side of Meisel Avenue beginning 350 feet north of Laurel Drive and continuing 400 feet north from that point (§ 7-14: Parking Prohibited During Certain Hours on Certain Streets).
Temporary permission to park a vehicle on the street may be granted by the Springfield Police Department on a nightly, case by case basis (driveway construction, visitor with no room in the driveway, etc.).
No overnight parking permission will be granted if there is sufficient room in the driveway for the vehicle to be parked, and vehicles are subject to a summons in the event an officer observes sufficient room in the driveway, even if previous overnight parking permission has been granted. Exceptions can be made for temporary permission in the event a vehicle is disabled.
No overnight parking permission will be granted in the event snow or other frozen precipitation covers the street, or if such conditions are forecasted, to allow for snow removal (§ 7-7.3: Temporary Parking Prohibition for Snow Plowing and Removal).
The police department has no authority to grant parking permission on private property, such as shopping centers, apartment complexes, Springfield Board of Education property, etc.
Overnight parking permission requests shall be made on a nightly basis via the Springfield Police Department online parking portal. Individuals requesting permission to park a vehicle overnight will be responsible for the accuracy of information entered into the system and may be subject to a summons if information is entered incorrectly.
Overnight parking permission requests shall be entered via the Springfield Police Department online parking portal by 2:00am. Requests will continue to be accepted via the online parking portal after 2:00am, however, will be void if a summons has already been issued to the vehicle prior to the request being submitted and approved.
All online requests will be reviewed by a Springfield Police Department supervisor, who will determine if the request is approved or denied. The individual making the request will receive an email indicating the status of their request.
Requests are for single nights only, and a new request must be submitted for each night.
Long term overnight parking requests (requests greater than two weeks) shall be made through the Office of the Chief of Police, by submitting a request traffic@springfield-nj.us. The request must include the reason for the long term overnight parking request, anticipated duration, and number of vehicles and descriptions.
